Global Seesaw is a fair trade company which trades with social enterprises which employ and empower women who have been trafficked or exploited by prostitution. Through creating sustainable employment, women are given choices which were not previously available and are given training, a good wage and other social help. Global Seesaw is the trading name of Freeset Ltd, a UK social enterprise which started in early 2006 and is a BAFTS recognised importer. Each of our suppliers are selected based on the impact sought, people employed, wages paid and quality of products.
Established in 2001, Freeset employs over 150 women and makes jute and cotton bags along with organic fair-trade t-shirts. Freeset is located in the heart of Sonagachi, a notorious Kolkata district, and aims to create sustainable employment to women who wish to exit prostitution.
Sari Bari opened in 2006 and create beautiful throws and bags made from recycled vintage
cotton saris. Each product is hand sewn using a traditional kantha stitch and has a tag with the name of the woman who made it.
Love Calcutta Arts is a business that seeks to provide economic freedom as well as a sense of dignity and self worth to vulnerable women in Kolkata. Through making journals and booklets from handmade paper and recycled saris, employment is offered to women who would otherwise be at risk of abuse and exploitation.
